Midlands Boxing Culture – The Return?

I created Midlands Boxing Culture or ‘MBC’ in 2017 with the aim of providing an alternative media platform for boxing in the Midlands.

Over the four years that followed, and with the support of a number of associates (who I am to this day and forever grateful beyond words), I was able to establish MBC as, atleast, ‘a good website.’

There were countless interviews and articles, many contributed but just as many written in-house. And the majority of photographs were taken in-house too.

Having editorial control meant being able to trial different approaches to creating content. It also meant that MBC could try to maintain a particular kind of character.

Developing and growing MBC was very challenging, and the journey was interspersed with times of glee as well as times of disappointment. Although MBC had a following it couldn’t cultivate any lasting engagement and I will admit to being, many times, at a loss as to how to change that.

Limited resources (MBC has always been self funded) was a key factor in the decision to eventually close the website.

It felt like MBC was over.

Which is why it gives me great pleasure to be able to present this article. It’s my first in a while and comes courtesy of my friends and associates at the awesome BCB Promotions.

I’m not saying that MBC is back. I hope to keep the new webpage alive with interesting information. And it would be awesome to be able to add more, bigger and better articles.

In the meantime, why not check out some of my favourite posts from the MBC archives.
